One Carry-On, One Month: How I Packed for 3 Climates and Unlimited Style: PART 2
When it comes to traveling, adopting a minimalist mindset is just as important as looking good. Being strategic with your wardrobe isn't difficult—it just takes a little logic, a lot of discipline, and a commitment to comfort and style.
For our trip spanning from June 7th to July 4th, I managed to pack everything into a single carry-on and a backpack.
Was it perfect? Almost! If I had to repack right now, I’d honestly leave a few of my extra shirts behind because I didn't end up needing them. June weather in Europe can be incredibly volatile. In the UK, we encountered soft rain, high winds, and chilly temperatures dropping into the 40s and 50s. Meanwhile, Austria and Hungary greeted us with sunny, upper-80s heat—with London gifting us two beautiful, warm, sunny days in between!
How did I survive both freezing winds and summer heatwaves in a single carry-on? Let's break down the exact wardrobe blueprint. ⬇️
🎒 The "1.5 Day" Backpack Strategy
My backpack was my strategic "command center." It held everything I needed for our fast-paced transit stops so I never had to open my carry-on during the first leg of our journey.
Inside my backpack, I packed:
The Budapest Outfit: My complete clothing set for our 1.5-day girls' trip in Hungary. Green Skort and Top plus a PJ…
The "Just in Case" Set: An emergency pair of leggings and a comfortable top (essential for long travel days or flight delays).
The Tech: 1 Macbook Pro, a compact foldable multi-device charger (for my AirPods, Apple Watch, and iPhone), a global plug converter, and a travel magnetic tripod for taking family photos on the go.
The Flight Essentials: Statement Sunglasses, a travel-size umbrella, a compact red designer purse for everyday use, my makeup bag, and essential travel-size toiletries.
The Documents: My wallet, our passports, and a physical folder holding print-outs of all our tickets, visas, and reservations (always have a paper backup!).

🧳 The Capsule Wardrobe
3 Base Outfits, Endless Mix-and-Matching
The secret to minimalist travel is packing high-quality, lightweight pieces that you can layer. During my entire month away, I repeated at most two exact outfits. Instead, I mixed, matched, and layered.
Full Disclosure: I am sharing the links to my personal items purely because I love these products and they survived the ultimate Euro-trip test! I do not receive any commission, sponsorship, or affiliate payouts from these brands. Just sharing the honest love!
Here are the three core bases I lived in…
Base 1: The Neutral Core
Timeless classic colors for the win!
The Bottoms: One pair of ultra-comfortable, light-colored Lululemon wide-leg pants in a gorgeous neutral tone.
The Tops: Five matching tops. I chose versatile neutrals (cream, taupe, white, and ribbed grey). Two of these were sleek cropped tanks that doubled as cozy undershirts for those cold London days.
The Vibe: Effortless, chic, and perfect for walking miles through a new city.
Base 2: The Statement Polka Dot
Polka dots are the latest summer trend!
The Bottoms: A beautiful, flowy black-and-white polka dot midi skirt.
The Tops: Four options to completely change the look. I packed a matching off-the-shoulder polka dot top for a fancy night out, a classic black "LOVE YA SELF" tee, a vibrant red bodysuit for a pop of color, and a simple black cami.
Base 3: The Fresh Green Skort
Skorts are the best comfort to style bottoms!
The Bottoms: A playful, lightweight sage green skort (the ultimate secret weapon for walking on breezy days!).
The Tops: 4 coordinating casual tops, including a classic white "Positano Coast" graphic tee, a white puff-sleeve top, a soft peach cami, and a matching high neck short sleeve cotton top.
Base 4: Travel comfort outfits
Jumpsuits for the win for long journeys. (Make sure they are ‘potty friendly’ - easy pull down/pull up)
2 Jumpsuits: One black and double tone print jumpsuit were my go to traveling pieces. Comfortable like Pijamas with a sassy punch and lightweight enough to store away tightly.
🧥 Outerwear, Undergarments, & Accessories
To survive the freezing, wet UK weather and the warm European sun, layering was non-negotiable.
A stylish neutral blazer is the chic way to elevate any outfit and warm enough for cold weather days.
The Outerwear: One lightweight, neutral blazer for instant polish, and a neutral Lululemon zip-up lycra jacket that takes up zero suitcase space but kept me warm and dry during wet days.
The Hero Accessory: A beautiful, V-shaped patterned pashmina. It served as a cozy scarf on the plane, a chic bathing suit sarong in the sun, and a protective shawl for breezy summer nights.
The Jewelry: I wore a curated set of gold hoop earrings, three layered gold necklaces, and three bracelets—high-quality pieces that I never had to take off.
The Essentials: 10 pairs of underwear, 2 bras, 1 bathing suit, and 5 pairs of socks.
The Laundry Secret: I packed lightweight laundry detergent sheets to hand-wash items in hotel sinks. I only had to do full laundry twice during the entire month!
Breaking the Shoe Rule
(Keep scrolling for more photos)
Shoes take up the most weight and space, so you have to choose wisely. And as a shoe addict myself some essential items I cannot not leave behind. The smarter you are in picking the right shoe that packs light and well but looks even better, the more you can carry:
The Daily Walkers: My trusted white leather Born sneakers . I walked up to 10 miles per day in these with zero blisters! And the best part is their zip-up feature.
The Casual Daywear: A pair of flat, tie-up black espadrilles . The perfect mix of style and comfort.
The Night Out: One pair of 3-inch, skin-colored espadrille wedges. Because they are a nude tone, they matched literally every single skirt and pant outfit I had.
The Relaxed: One pair of nice, sleek flip-flops for the room or the lake.
The Hikers: One pair of neutral Athletic shoes fit for a run or a hike through the Alps. Our hikes were leisurely so sneakers worked but for true hiking proper boots are recommended for extensive trails.
Final Thoughts: Less Baggage, More Joy
When you stop packing for "just in case" scenarios and start packing with logic, travel becomes so much lighter. You aren't dragging heavy bags up train station stairs, you aren't paying extra fees at the gate, and you can focus entirely on the memories you are making with the people you love.
